The Constitution of the Portuguese Republic celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in 2026. More than just a legal text, it is the fundamental law and the basis for the rights, freedoms, and guarantees that are part of the daily lives of all citizens.
In this edition of the Conversations of the Diary, we propose a conversation in clear and accessible language about the Constitution, seeking to answer a simple question: what is the Constitution for, after all?
Using everyday examples, the session aims to show how the Constitution is present in dimensions as diverse as freedom of expression, equality, education, health, consumer protection, and the environment, bringing the country's main law closer to all citizens, regardless of their legal background.
Integrated into the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and the 50th anniversary of the Diário da República, this conversation is part of the mission of the Conversations of the Diary to promote legal and democratic literacy, making the law more approachable, understandable, and accessible.
